The people who make Spinaca Farms: Kayla, Johnny, and Christina

Zack and Johnny chat with a colleague during a spinach harvest

At Spinaca Farms, our legacy stretches back four generations, rooted in California’s rich agricultural history. What started in the 1920s as a family-run farm has grown into a thriving produce business shaped by innovation, grit, and the unwavering dedication of the people who bring it all to life. Today, we’re celebrating three standout team members whose stories reflect everything we stand for.

Kayla Mulch: From prize pigs to produce powerhouse

As Sales & Marketing Manager, Kayla Mulch is the energy behind our brand and the reason Spinaca Farms shows up strong in the market every single day. She keeps the business humming, builds lasting relationships, and somehow makes it all look easy. But her story didn’t start in an office — it started in the show ring.

Kayla was a force in the California Junior Livestock circuit, winning top honors three years in a row. And yes, she still has the belt buckles to prove it. That same determination and drive shows up in everything she does here. This year marks Kayla’s fifth at Spinaca Farms, and we couldn’t be more grateful to have her leading the charge.

Johnny and his son play along to ‘Mother’ by Danzig

Juan “Johnny” Carlos Aldape: Rocking the field and the drum kit

If you’ve ever wondered how we manage to keep every piece of field production running like clockwork, the answer is simple: Johnny. As our Production Manager, Juan “Johnny” Carlos Aldape has been with Spinaca Farms for 24 years. He’s the steady hand behind the scenes who ensures that crews are coordinated, crops are harvested, and operations stay smooth.

But off the farm, Johnny lets loose in a way that might surprise you. A devoted fan of Norwegian death metal, he taught himself the drums just so he could jam with his son, who plays electric guitar. Their living room covers of heavy metal classics — yes, including ‘Mother’ by Danzig — are the stuff of legend. Johnny brings that same passion, discipline, and quiet leadership to his work in the fields every single day.

Christina Hernandez: Leading the kale harvest, feeding the soul

Christina Hernandez has been with Spinaca Farms for 13 years and currently heads up our organic kale harvest. Her work ethic, attention to detail, and natural leadership have made her an integral part of our farming operation.

But her talents don’t stop at the field’s edge. Christina is also the culinary force behind our team BBQs, where she treats us all to homemade tortillas, beans, and rice that people talk about long after the grill’s been turned off. She brings the same care and pride to her cooking as she does to her harvest team—quietly building connection and community through shared meals and shared work.

A legacy built on people

Our history may be rooted in California soil, but our future is built by people like Kayla, Johnny, and Christina—people who bring their full selves to their work and make Spinaca Farms more than just a business. Their stories are a reminder that great produce starts with great people, and we’re proud to have them growing with us.
